Introducing Broadcasts: Reach Every EV Driver, On Your Terms

ChargeWise - Introducing Broadcasts: Reach EV Drivers on Your Own Terms

This is the first article in a 4-part series on ChargeWise Broadcasts. In this article, we cover what the "Broadcasts" feature is and how it works at a high level. The next three articles walk through each delivery channel in detail: card, popup, and email.

What is Broadcasts?

Broadcasts is ChargeWise's built-in tool for sending announcements directly to your EV drivers, without leaving the admin dashboard. Whether you're promoting a double-points weekend, letting Gold and Platinum members know their rewards are ready, or announcing a new charging site, Broadcasts gives you one place to compose the message and choose exactly who sees it and how.

You'll find Broadcasts in the left-hand navigation of your ChargeWise admin dashboard, alongside Users, Tiers, Programs, and Rewards.

Broadcasts Management Panel in the ChargeWise Admin App

One composer, three channels

Every broadcast starts the same way: you write your message once. From there, you choose how it reaches drivers:

  1. Card - A notification card in the driver app with one optional primary action (open page or open link). The notification is delivered as a card into the driver's existing notification stack.
  2. Popup - A one-time popup shown to the driver the moment they open the app: an image, a title, a description, and a single button. It's automatically consumed the moment it's shown to the driver.
  3. Email - A message delivered directly to the driver's email inbox.

Please note that:

  • Each channel is suited to a different level of urgency and visibility, which we'll cover in detail in the next three articles in this series.
  • A single broadcast can use the card or the popup, but not both at once since the two are mutually exclusive per broadcast.

Choose your audience

When creating a broadcast, you decide exactly who receives it. Five audience modes are available:

  • All drivers - every enabled driver in your organization.
  • Specific drivers - a hand-picked list of individual drivers, found by searching name or email.
  • Tiers - every enabled driver in a chosen loyalty tier.
  • User groups - every enabled driver in a chosen user group.
  • User list - a pasted list of driver email addresses. Duplicate entries are automatically deduplicated, and any email that doesn't match an enabled driver in your organization is flagged as unmatched.

Please note that:

Disabled drivers are never included in any audience. Before you send the broadcast out, ChargeWise displays the eligible recipient count for the audience you've chosen.

Preview it, then send it

Before a broadcast goes out, you can preview it exactly as the driver will see it, whether that's the notification, the popup, or the email layout. This lets you catch formatting issues or unclear copy before it reaches anyone's device.

Creating a broadcast is a two-step process - you save it as a complete draft first, then confirm the send separately. Drafts can be edited or deleted freely, and nothing is delivered to drivers until you confirm the send. At the moment you confirm, ChargeWise rechecks eligibility one more time, as it may have changed since the draft was saved. If no eligible drivers remain, the send is blocked.

⚠️ Sending the broadcast out cannot be undone. Once a broadcast leaves the Draft status, it can no longer be edited.

Track what happens after you send

Once a broadcast is sent, ChargeWise reports back on how it performed. From the Broadcasts dashboard, you can see, at a glance:

  1. Total broadcasts - the number of all broadcasts sent over a given period (30 days out). Total Broadcasts include every broadcast on record, including drafts and revoked ones.
  2. Sent rate - the share of broadcasts that were successfully delivered. Revoking a sent broadcast can lower this count.
  3. Seen rate - how many recipients actually saw the message.
  4. Interactions - how many recipients engaged with the content (clicked the designated card, i.e.).

Every individual broadcast also shows its audience, recipient count, and status (Sent or Revoked) in a running history, so you always have a record of what went out, to whom, and when.

Broadcast statuses

Every broadcast moves through a status as it goes from idea (draft) to delivery (sent). You'll see these in the Status column and on each broadcast's detail view:

Status

What it means

Draft Saved, but nothing has been sent to drivers yet. Can still be edited or deleted.
Pending Delivery has been triggered and is being prepared or is currently going out. With a small audience, this can pass by in a moment.
Sent Delivery finished successfully - the full audience received the broadcast.
Partial Only part of the intended audience received it.
Failed Nothing was delivered.
Revoked The broadcast was sent, then pulled back - any cards still active on drivers' devices were withdrawn.

⚠️ Revoking is how you pull back a broadcast after the fact, but it doesn't turn it back into a Draft - it's a one-way action, same as sending.

Track what happens after you send

Once a broadcast goes out, ChargeWise tracks its journey through four states, shown on every broadcast's detail view:

State

What it means

Delivered The broadcast reached the driver's app. It doesn't yet mean the driver has seen it.
Seen The message reached the front of the driver's notification stack.
Interacted The driver clicked the broadcast's primary action button.
Dismissed The driver closed the message themselves (the top-right X), or it was pulled back by a Revoke.

Please note that:

Seen and Interacted counts never exceed Delivered.

What's next

In the next three articles, we'll go channel by channel:

  1. Card - how they appear and when to use them.
  2. Popup - how to use them for high-visibility announcements.
  3. Email - formatting, delivery, and best practices.
